CIVILITY AND RESPECT PLEDGE

18th of May, 2026

This Council has signed a pledge which has been prepared by the National Association of Local Councils, the Society of Local Council Clerks and One Voice Wales, which demonstrates our Members' commitment to treating Councillors, clerks. employees, members of the public, representatives of partner organisations and volunteers with civility and respect in their roles.

The above organisations believe that now is the time to prioritise civility and respect and start a culture change in the local council sector following many complaints made to the Public Services Ombudsman about Councillors' behaviour to Members, clerks and others.  Civility means politeness and courtesy in behaviour, speech and in the written word.  Examples of ways in which you can show respect are by listening and paying attention to others, having consideration for other people's feelings, following protocols and rules, showing appreciation and thanks and being kind.

It is hoped that all councils in Pembrokeshire and the wider area will sign this pledge and stand by its principles.
